Anhinga anhinga

The 'snakebird' — a black diving bird that swims with only its serpentine neck above water.

The Anhinga is one of Leonida's most distinctive birds, hunting underwater by spearing fish with its dagger-like bill. Unlike ducks, its feathers aren't waterproof, so it must stand with wings spread to dry between dives, a posture so iconic it's been featured in Leonida State Park signage for decades.
