Black Skimmer 126
Black Skimmer
SPECULATEDRynchops niger
A coastal bird with an absurdly asymmetrical bill that skims the water surface for fish.
The Black Skimmer is one of Leonida's most unusual birds, with a lower mandible substantially longer than the upper. They fly just above the water surface with the lower bill submerged, snapping shut when it contacts a fish. The technique is unique among birds.
