Wood Stork 40
Wood Stork
SPECULATEDMycteria americana
A large white wading bird with a bald, prehistoric-looking head that locals have unkindly nicknamed 'iron head'.
The Wood Stork is the only stork native to North America, and Leonida hosts one of the last breeding populations. Despite its ungainly bald head, it's a remarkably efficient hunter, using its open bill to detect fish by touch in murky swamp water.
