High up on the forested slopes of Mount Kalaga, this log cabin is the kind of place people disappear to — sometimes by choice, sometimes not. Accessible via a winding mountain road that turns to gravel after the last gas station, the cabin sits in a clearing surrounded by pine and cypress trees, with views of the Leonida lowlands stretching to the horizon on clear days. The interior is pure rustic Americana: log walls, a stone fireplace big enough to roast a whole hog, animal pelts on the floor, and a trophy room lined with mounted heads that the previous owner was very proud of. Two bedrooms, a kitchen stocked with canned goods and bourbon, and a porch with rocking chairs complete the picture. A detached garage holds two vehicles and enough firewood to survive a Leonida winter — which, admittedly, isn't that cold, but the atmosphere is the point.
