Swordfish 91

Swordfish

ESPECULADO

Xiphias gladius

A deep-water billfish hunted by Leonida's nighttime longliners.

The Swordfish is a deep-water predator hunted primarily at night by Leonida's specialized longline and buoy-gear fleets. Their sword-like bill is used for stunning prey rather than spearing it, and their recovery from 1990s-era collapse is one of the few genuine success stories in North Atlantic fisheries management.
