Gloriana

A sprawling county that serves as the state's political and administrative center, where bureaucracy moves slower than the afternoon traffic on the interstate.

Gloriana is where Leonida governs itself — poorly, expensively, and with an entertainment value that rivals anything on Vice City television. As the state's political center, Gloriana is home to the capitol building, a gleaming dome of marble and corruption where elected officials do their best impression of public servants while lobbyists run the actual show in steakhouse back rooms. The county is anchored by a mid-sized city built around the government district and a large state university whose football team is, by a wide margin, the most competent organization in the area. Outside the city center, Gloriana spreads into pine-forested suburbs and exurban sprawl, with a notable population of state employees, academics, and retirees who moved here because it was cheaper than the coast and then spent the rest of their lives complaining about the lack of beaches. The state fair, held annually at the fairgrounds, is a magnificent spectacle of deep-fried everything, questionable carnival rides, and politicians kissing babies with the mechanical precision of campaign consultants.
