Fishing
CONFIRMEDLeisure — Easy
Cast a line at dozens of spots across Leonida, from tranquil freshwater ponds to deep-sea charters, and discover that the fish aren't the only things with questionable things in their stomachs.
Fishing in Leonida is less a hobby and more a way of life — one that ranges from peacefully tossing a bobber into a canal while cracking open a cold one, to white-knuckling a deep-sea rod as a 400-pound marlin tries to drag you and your charter boat to Cuba. The state offers an absurd variety of fishing experiences: freshwater bass fishing in Grassrivers' tea-colored waterways, catfish noodling in Ambrosia's muddy rivers (yes, you stick your arm in the hole and hope for the best), pier fishing off Vice Beach where you're competing with pelicans and tourists, and offshore big-game charters out of the Leonida Keys where the catch can be worth more than the boat. Each fish species has its own behavior patterns, preferred bait, and time-of-day activity windows, rewarding patient anglers who learn the ecosystem. Fishing tournaments pop up regularly, offering serious prize money for the biggest catch. And if you're pulling something out of the water that definitely isn't a fish, well — Leonida's waterways are full of surprises, and not all of them have gills.
