Off-road racing is what happens when Leonida's street racers get tired of potholes. The rural counties host a full circuit of off-road events: mud bogs where the goal is distance into bottomless pits, hill climbs where the point is to not flip, desert rally stages through Waning Sands where you and your codriver agree to share responsibility for the car, and trail races through the pine forests of Mount Kalaga where clipping a tree is less of an event than a rite of passage. Vehicle tuning for off-road is a different science — tire sidewall, articulation, skid plates, and winch selection all matter more than raw horsepower. The rural racing community is surprisingly tight-knit and surprisingly welcoming to outsiders who show up with a real truck and zero attitude.
