Sandhill Crane
SPECULATEDAntigone canadensis
A tall, loud bird that walks through suburban lawns with the confidence of someone who owns the place.
The Sandhill Crane is a four-foot-tall gray bird with a distinctive red crown that strolls through Leonida's suburban neighborhoods with absolute impunity. Their trumpeting call can be heard from over a mile away, making them the loudest alarm clock in any neighborhood. During mating season, pairs perform elaborate dancing displays that have become a spectator sport for bored suburbanites.
