Great Egret 34
Great Egret
SPECULATEDArdea alba
A tall, brilliant white heron that stalks shallow water with the elegance of a runway model.
The Great Egret is one of Leonida's most elegant birds, a three-foot-tall white heron with a dagger-like yellow bill. Nearly hunted to extinction in the 19th century for its breeding plumes, it has recovered to become a common sight along every canal, pond, and wetland edge in the state.
