Leatherback Sea Turtle
SPECULATEDDermochelys coriacea
A 1,500-pound soft-shelled oceanic wanderer that nests rarely on Leonida's remote beaches.
The Leatherback is the largest sea turtle on Earth, reaching 2,000 pounds and able to dive over 4,000 feet. Their soft, leathery shell and diet of jellyfish distinguishes them from every other turtle. Nesting on Leonida's beaches is rare but documented.
