Florida Black Bear 28
Florida Black Bear
ESPECULADOUrsus americanus floridanus
A large omnivore that occasionally wanders into suburban neighborhoods to remind people that Leonida is still wild.
The Florida Black Bear is Leonida's largest terrestrial mammal, a powerful omnivore that can weigh up to 450 pounds. While generally shy, these bears are increasingly venturing into suburban areas attracted by unsecured trash, bird feeders, and fruit trees. A startled or cornered black bear is extremely dangerous, capable of running at 30 mph and climbing trees with surprising agility.
