GTA 6 Hurricanes, Weather and 170+ Animals Explained

Leonida is the most detailed world Rockstar has built, and its weather and wildlife are a big part of that. Everything here comes from Rockstar’s interviews in Game Informer issue 382, published on 29 September 2026, and from the Extended Look.

Hurricanes and tropical storms

Rockstar confirmed that tropical storms and hurricanes can hit Leonida. A Rockstar designer described heavy cloud, strong winds, dense atmospherics and a lot of rain.

Not yet stated: how often storms happen, whether they are scripted for missions, and whether they damage the world.

Localised, persistent weather

• Weather is localised, so it can be clear where you stand while a storm sits on the horizon.
• It is persistent: puddles remain after rain and rainbows can appear after showers.
• A new wind system moves hair, debris, water and swamp grass, with offshore breezes after sunset and updrafts around buildings.

More than 170 animal species

• Over 60 bird types and more than 30 land mammals, plus fish and reptiles.
• Named species include manatees, flamingos, pelicans and alligators.
• Invasive species such as green iguanas, cane toads, feral cats and rhesus macaques appear, according to Game Informer’s write-up.
• Some animals are categorised as rare, discoverable or legendary and can be tracked.
• Many species have never appeared in a Rockstar game before.

The Extended Look shows alligator hunting, an airboat run through the Grassrivers wetlands, and interacting with dogs.

Where to find them

Most wildlife footage so far is in the Grassrivers wetlands, the Leonida Keys and Mount Kalaga National Park. Explore confirmed regions on the Leonida map, and browse species in the animals database, where confirmed and likely species are kept separate.
