Pre-load and download facts
- Pre-load opens
- 12 November 2026
- Rockstar and Take-Two confirm the date. Store listings point to local midnight, but Rockstar has not given an exact time.
- Launch
- 19 November 2026
- Rolling midnight-local unlock, starting in New Zealand at 11:00 UTC on 18 November.
- Install size
- Not announced yet
- Rockstar has not published an install size yet. Viral figures online are guesses.
- Boxed copies
- Download code
- Boxed copies contain a download code, not a disc, so physical buyers can pre-load from the same date.
Get updates installed before midnight
- Turn on automatic updates and leave the console in a low-power mode that stays online (rest mode on PS5, sleep on Xbox), so patches can install while you're away.
- Keep plenty of free space after the pre-load. Updates need room to download and unpack, and a full drive stalls them.
- Start the game once the pre-load finishes. If an update is waiting, the console usually offers it straight away.
Clearing space? Our GTA 6 file size guide has the numbers, and the pre-load guide walks through PS5 and Xbox step by step.
