Embargo status

Review embargo: not announced. Big Rockstar launches usually lift reviews a few days before release.

GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 reviews both went live the day before launch, so the most likely window is 17 or 18 November. The moment the embargo lifts, every major outlet's score, pull quote and link appears here, with a running average.

Before the scores

What reviewers will be judging

  • 01 Map size

Does the map hold up at twice GTA V's size?

Rockstar's Aaron Garbut calls Leonida about twice the size of GTA V's map. The question every review will answer first: is it dense, or is it driving. Vice City, the Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga all need to earn their place.

  • 02 Wanted system

    The six-star wanted system

Police that remember your car and clothes, a persistent record and a sixth star GTA V never had. Reviewers will test whether chases feel smarter or just harder.

  • 03 Characters

    Switching between Jason and Lucia

Two leads, one story, swapping between them with phone messages when apart. Expect reviews to weigh the writing as heavily as the shooting.

  • 04 Length

    The 80-hour claim

Rockstar North's Rob Nelson reportedly took about 80 hours with optional goals. Reviews will say how long the story really runs and whether side content pads or pays off.

  • 05 Performance

Performance on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S

The Extended Look was captured on a PS5. Frame rate targets, Series S cuts, load times and a 60fps mode are the technical boxes every review will tick or cross.

  • 06 Music

    Radio on foot

Six confirmed stations you can keep listening to after you leave the car. Small feature, big mood. Reviewers will judge the soundtrack and the hosts as much as the tracklist.

Preview season

What the previews said

Nobody outside Rockstar has reviewed GTA VI yet. These two drops are the closest thing to a preview, and they set the bar every review will measure against.

27 August 2026

The Extended Look

Twenty-seven minutes of in-game footage captured on PS5. The reaction centred on how much Rockstar showed at once: the six-star wanted level, switching between Jason and Lucia, cover combat, body changes, and a long list of activities from scuba diving to basketball. The consensus take was that this was the most systems-heavy showing Rockstar has ever given before a launch.

The Game Informer cover story

A 14-page feature with 12 new screenshots. The headline numbers did the rounds for weeks: a map about twice GTA V's, more than 170 animal species, hurricanes and localised weather. Coverage focused on scale, which is exactly what reviews will now have to test.
