Pre-load GTA VI from 12 Nov

Digital pre-load opens 12 November 2026, a week before launch. This guide covers the PS5 and Xbox steps, storage preparation, the code-in-box physical format and the parts Rockstar has not confirmed, with a checklist that saves on your device.

How to pre-load on PS5

  1. 1. Pre-order from PlayStation Store or redeem your code-in-box voucher under Settings > Users and Accounts > Account > Redeem Code.
  2. 2. From 12 November, open your Game Library, find Grand Theft Auto VI and select Download. If automatic downloads are on, it may already be queued.
  3. 3. Enable Settings > System > Power Saving > Features Available in Rest Mode > Stay Connected to the Internet so the download runs while the console sleeps.
  4. 4. Check Downloads/Uploads in the Control Center until it shows complete. The tile stays locked until your unlock time.
  5. 5. PS5 Pro owners: PlayStation's page lists PS5 Pro Enhanced. No separate download is required.

Xbox Series X|S

How to pre-load on Xbox

  1. 1. Pre-order from the Xbox Store or redeem the code-in-box voucher under Store > Redeem. The console and the Xbox app both work.
  2. 2. From 12 November, open My Games and Apps > Full Library > Owned Games and select Install on Grand Theft Auto VI. Pre-ordered titles usually appear with an Install button automatically.
  3. 3. Set Settings > General > Power Options to Sleep so downloads continue when the console is off, and keep Settings > System > Updates > Keep my games and apps up to date enabled.
  4. 4. Watch Queue under My Games and Apps until the install reaches 100 percent.
  5. 5. Series S owners: Rockstar has not published a Series S install size. Treat internal storage as tight and consider an expansion card.

  • Boxed copies contain a download code, not a disc, so physical buyers can pre-load from the same date.

When does GTA VI pre-load start?

Digital pre-load opens on 12 November 2026, seven days before launch. Take-Two confirmed the date in its pre-order announcement and the Rockstar Store product page repeats it. Store listings point to local midnight, but Rockstar has not published a clock time.

How big is the GTA VI download?

Rockstar has not published an install size. Figures circulating online, including a widely shared 228 GB number, are estimates or fabrications. Clear generous space and leave room for a day-one update.

Can I pre-load a physical copy of GTA VI?

Yes. Boxed copies contain a download code rather than a disc, and Rockstar Store says physical copies are available from 12 November specifically so buyers can pre-load. Redeem the code as soon as you have it.

Can I play early after pre-loading?

No. Pre-loaded files stay locked until your account region's unlock time passes on 19 November. Pre-loading only removes the download wait.

Can I cancel a pre-order after pre-loading?

On PlayStation, starting a pre-load download can remove the automatic cancel option for a digital pre-order. Check Sony's and Microsoft's refund terms before you start the download if you are undecided.

Do I need PlayStation Plus or Game Pass?

No. GTA VI is a single-player game at launch and no subscription is required to pre-load or play. Digital pre-orders include one free month of GTA+, Rockstar's own membership, which is a bonus rather than a requirement.
