GTA 6 on Xbox Series S: Storage, Performance and Facts
GTA 6 is confirmed for Xbox Series S. What Rockstar has and has not said about performance, why storage is the real problem on the 512 GB model, and how to prepare.
Grand Theft Auto VI is confirmed for Xbox Series S at launch on 19 November 2026, alongside Series X and PS5. Rockstar has not published any performance details for Series S, and the bigger practical issue for most owners is storage.
What is confirmed
- Xbox Series X|S is an official launch platform.
- The official Xbox Store listing covers both consoles.
- Pre-load opens 12 November.
What is not confirmed
- Resolution and frame-rate targets on Series S or Series X.
- Any Series S-specific cuts or modes.
- The install size.
Rockstar’s footage so far has been captured on PS5, so there is no official Series S footage to judge.
Storage is the real problem
The 512 GB Series S has roughly 364 GB of usable space. With no official GTA VI size and a likely day-one update, that leaves little room for anything else. See GTA 6 file size for our planning figure.
Options, cheapest first:
- Move older games to a USB drive. Xbox can store current-gen games on USB but cannot run them from it.
- Uninstall games you can redownload later.
- Add an official Xbox storage expansion card, which runs current-gen games directly.
The 1 TB Series S has about 800 GB usable, which is comfortable.
Series S or Series X?
If you already own a Series S, you can play GTA VI at launch. If you are buying an Xbox mainly for GTA VI, Series X is the safer choice until Rockstar or Digital Foundry-style testing shows how the Series S version holds up.

Will GTA 6 run well on Xbox Series S?
Rockstar has not published resolution or frame-rate targets for any console, including Series S. Expect a lower resolution than Series X, as with other current games, but nothing official has been stated.
Is the Series S 512 GB enough for GTA 6?
It is tight. The 512 GB model has about 364 GB usable and Rockstar has not published an install size. Plan to clear most other games or add an official expansion card.
Is GTA 6 on Xbox One?
No. GTA VI is only on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5.
